Introduction to hot melts:

Hot-melts are defined as thermoplastics adhesives. They mainly differ from water- and solvent based adhesives because they contain 100% solid content. Hotmelts can be used because of several reasons:

- Hotmelts are fast setting (e.g. less than 1 second pressure)

- Hotmelts are very versatile

- Hotmelts can be easily worked with

Hot-melt Polyurethane or thermoplastic

To choose the right hot-melt you have to know something about the background of these adhesives. Standard hot melts are thermoplastic. Thermoplastic means that the hot melts can melt again after applicating. Polyurethane hot melts have certain advantages as an higher heat resistance and better resistance to chemicals and water. Disadvantage of Polyurethane hot melts are the difficulty in processing and being more harmfull. Most hotmelts in the packaging industries are thermoplastic, only when you need specific requirements that meet a certain heat- or chemical resistance you could think in the direction of Polyurethane hot melts.

New generation hot melts

Especially for the packaging industry the Futura hot melts are developed. These hot melts (thermoplastics) have certain advantages as:
  • Pearl white in colour.
  • Low odour – no tainting.
  • No fumes.
  • No char, no gel, no nozzle blockages.
  • Qualified for food and medical packaging.
  • Fast melt down.
  • -40°C to +90°C in service.
  • Fully compatible with standard hot melts.
  • Competitively pricing
Futura hot-melts are likely to give a lower consumption and higher efficiency in production. For example we can point out that Futura 1 can run fluently on 80% of all packaging machines in the world!

Hot melt training

There are regular trainings for users of hot melts. In these trainings we discuss practical situations, the theory behind a hot melt and the use and background of hot-melt equipment. Many packaging experts, engineers and operators have confirmed that this training gave them a much better feeling with these products.
