Hot melt labelling
Hot melt labelling can be done on several manners. Most of the time the labels are only partially applied with glue, in that case we talk about pick-up and overlap application. It could be that 2 different types of adhesives are required, depeninding on machinetype and different kinds of labels, but mainly there's only one hotmelt type to do pick-up as overlap as well. Pick-up and overlap applications work with rollers or with spray nozzles. If you are interested in cold glue labelling as well you can take a look at our labelling website also.

Vertical labelling
Most new hot melt labelling machines are vertical labelling mechanisms like Krones and Langguth. Advantage of these machines are that it can handle with a large variety of formats and settings. These machines are also able to run at relatively high production speeds, if they are using the right hot melt products at least! The complex situation of substrate qualities (such as: type of can or bottle and PET, PP, PE or paper labels) in combination with the type of hot melt applicators, have to be examined carefully. A good study can lead to the right hot melt and application temperatures. In case of newly installed machinery there are often as well mechanical- as adhesive experts involved with the startup. Last requirement is to have a clean running machine, that's why all settings has to be carefully recorded.
Most versatile product for vertical applications: Intercol HM 1474
Horizontal labelling
Most horizontal labelling machines are aged. With most horizontal labelling machines it's more difficult to change formats then with vertical labelling machines. Horizontal labelling machines seem to be only useable for labelling cans. One of the advantages of horizontal labelling machines is there simplicity and ease to use. Most horizontal labelling machines have initially been build with equipment that works with waterbased adhesives, lateron they were made faster running with building in hotmelt equipment (mostly on the pick-up station).
